Dehydrated Skin

Dehydrated skin is one of the most common skin concerns and can affect all skin types, including oily and acne-prone skin. When the skin lacks water, it can appear dull, tight, tired, and uncomfortable, often making fine lines and texture more noticeable. Many people mistake dehydration for dryness, however dehydrated skin is a condition rather than a skin type and is often linked to lifestyle, environment, or impaired skin barrier function.

Healthy skin relies on adequate water levels to maintain smoothness, elasticity, and overall skin function. When hydration levels drop, the skin barrier becomes compromised, making it harder for the skin to retain moisture and protect itself from external stressors. This can leave the skin feeling tight, sensitive, and unbalanced. Understanding what contributes to dehydration is the first step in restoring healthier, more comfortable skin.

Showing up on the skin in the following ways and you may experience one or more of the following:
• Tight or uncomfortable skin
• Dull or tired complexion
• Fine dehydration lines
• Rough or uneven texture
• Increased sensitivity or irritation
• Flakiness or dry patches
• Excess oil production despite feeling dry

Degrees of Dehydrated Skin
Not all dehydrated skin presents the same and therefore different approaches to treatment are needed.
• Mild Dehydration – temporary tightness or dullness often caused by weather, travel, or lack of water intake.
• Moderate Dehydration – persistent dryness, rough texture, and visible dehydration lines.
• Severe Dehydration – compromised barrier function with ongoing discomfort, sensitivity, and inflammation.
• Environmentally Dehydrated Skin – dehydration caused or worsened by air conditioning, heating, UV exposure, or harsh skincare products.
